Board Leaders Gather to Advance the Council's Mission and Impact

On September 11, the World Affairs Council of Atlanta's Board of Directors gathered at The Carter Center for a half-day retreat focused on the organization's future impact, mission advancement, and long-term sustainability. Facilitated by Mary Yntema, President and CEO of WorldBoston and a member of the Board of Directors of the World Affairs Councils of America, the session brought together board leaders for thoughtful discussion, reflection, and strategic planning.
Throughout the retreat, directors explored the Council's role in fostering global awareness and civic engagement in Atlanta, reflected on the organization's growing impact, and considered opportunities to strengthen its service to the community. Discussions focused on effective nonprofit governance, organizational learning, and ensuring the Council remains a vibrant and trusted forum for international dialogue.
The retreat brought together a distinguished group of civic, corporate, nonprofit, academic, and public service leaders, including Board Chair Asma Farid; Board Directors Paige Alexander, Jason Esteves, Arnold Evans, Cristina Falcone, Dennis Lockhart, Sam Olens, Allison Padilla-Goodman, Rich Phillips, and Jim Pirouz; Honorary Board Director John Tien; and Council President Rickey Bevington.
