Council Board Charts Strategic Direction at Semiannual Meeting

The World Affairs Council of Atlanta held its semiannual board meeting June 10 at The Carter Center, a fitting venue for a discussion on global engagement, leadership and the council’s strategic direction. The meeting was hosted by Paige Alexander, CEO of The Carter Center and a member of the council’s board.

Board members attending in person were Sam Olens, Jim Pirouz, Veronica Maldonado Torres, Jim Reed, Rich Phillips, Allison Padilla‑Goodman, Paige Alexander and Arnold Evans. Additional participation came virtually from Asma Farid, Hua Li and Christina Falcone, ensuring broad representation across the council’s leadership.

The board reviewed the fiscal 2026 summary, highlighting program achievements, membership trends and opportunities to expand the council’s global footprint. Discussion also focused on the upcoming leadership transition, with Asma Farid, vice president and managing partner at Edible Inc., set to become the incoming board chair.

Meeting at The Carter Center underscored the council’s commitment to advancing dialogue on global issues and strengthening Atlanta’s role as an internationally connected city. The board’s guidance continues to shape the council’s mission and impact as it enters fiscal 2026, reinforcing its dedication to strategic growth, global engagement and organizational excellence.
