About the event
In one of its initial actions, the Trump Administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) placed nearly all employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on administrative leave. Under the guise of ending fraud, waste, and abuse in the federal government, DOGE closed the USAID building, canceled payments to contractors for completed work, and terminated most ongoing contracts. While polls indicate that most Americans are unaware of USAID's functions, many lament the cessation of programs such as support for starving children and efforts to combat HIV/AIDS and malaria in Africa.
